IT'S REUNION TIME!...Just
over a week from now, Grissoms from far and wide will descend on
Chapel Hill, TN to participate in the 1999 Grissom Family Reunion!
MORE ACTIVITIES ON TAP...Several
people have mentioned to me that they wish the reunion could last
longer...longer than the two hours on Saturday when we gather to
eat, chat and go home. So I am hoping to plan some extra activities
so that the out-of-towners as well as the local relatives can spend
more time together and get to know each other better. After all ...
We are all Grissoms!
GRISSOM
REUNION HATS!...We have created a 1999 Grissom Reunion hat so
that everyone can have a souvenier of this summer's most exciting
weekend. It's a khaki hat with a navy blue rim, and they are
available for only $10.00 each! You
can order them by emailing Paul,
or by calling him at 1.800.264.5898 (M-Th
7:30-5:00, Fri. 7:30-11:30 Eastern). Let me know ASAP so I have
enough made up for everyone.
SCHEDULE
OF EVENTS
SATURDAY, AUGUST 7...
THE REUNION GATHERING ... Join us for a buffet lunch and
program. We have reserved one section of the restaurant that
will be curtained off for our group. Bring your appetite for
a wonderful meal with all your favorites including delicious
Southern cuisine. This will set you back $8.00 for the buffet,
kids 9 and under are $4.00 and high chair babies are free. There's
no need to send money...we will collect that day. Kinfolk from
all over will be there. We have heard that some holdouts plan
to attend. It's a good time to meet new relatives, get re-acquainted
with the old ones, see who's fatter and grayer and how much the
kids have grown since last time. Spread the word. Invite any
relatives who may not have gotten this notice.
FRIDAY, AUGUST 6... GRISSOM
FAMILY GOLF OUTING, at Buford Ellington's championship
golf course across the road from the Inn and Restaurant. $19.00
for 18 holes, cart $10. Hope you will join other family members
(men and ladies) for a morning a fun and relaxation. Golfers
of all skill and experience levels are invited - we're
just out for a good time, not a PGA Tournament! Questions or
sign up, call Paul Opel at 1-800-264-5898. E-mail: paul@vdd.com.
THURSDAY, AUGUST 5...BELL
BUCKLE... Let's
get together and visit this charming little town. Spend the day
visiting the Webb School or browsing the numerous antique and
craft shops, have lunch or an ice cream soda at Miss Jeanne's
Ice Cream Shop. Then plan to have supper at the Bell Buckle Café & Music
Parlour located on the square. Stick around for the live show
at 6:30 PM. Bell Buckle is a happening place. http://bellbucklecafe.com
SUNDAY, AUGUST 8...LET'S
GO TO CHURCH...Plan to attend Sunday morning services
together as a family at one of the churches near the state park.
We could fill up several pews. Time and place to be announced.
Any suggestions?
NATURE WALK or CANOE TRIP...take
a 11/2 mile hike together through the state park's Hickory Ridge
Nature Trail on Sunday afternoon. There is a self-guided tour with
numbered stops....OR....Rent a canoe
for a relaxing cruise on the Duck River that meanders through the
park. Either way, it's a chance to explore the scenic beauty of Tennessee
at its prettiest.
